As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this wonderful heavy quality pair of japanese vases from the great Meiji period , the vases finely cast in high relief that when displayed together form a scene of a bird looking down at swimming carp , the first vase depicts a long tailed pheasant sat in a prunus tree and gazing towards the fish , the detailing and casting to both vases is far superior to many vases of this type , the bird subtely finished with an inset gold eye , the opposing vase depicts a pair of carp swimming beneath overhanging trailing flora , this time the carps eyes are nicely finished in gold and shakudo , a very heavy quality pair of Tokyo school bronze vases with stamped seal mark to the underside that reads TOTO HIDEMITSU KANSEI (production supervised by Hidemitsu) a top quality maker based in Tokyo, in fantastic original condition .
