As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this fine quality pair of Japanese satsuma vases signed to the underside by Meizan , the vases are decorated in very high quality enamel work so typical of the slightly earlier period satsuma wares by this artist, the content is far too much too list but the most unusual feature is the inclusion of multiple noh masks either side of each main panel, a wonderful pair of high quality satsuma vases.For a very similar much smaller pair of vases see the Khalili collection ceramics part II ,plate 2 ,attributed to Yabu Meizan , we are not claiming these vases as Yabu Meizan although there is a school of though that now suggests the heavier enameled works such as these may be early Yabu ,there is still not enough known about the various artists working at that time and opinions will vary greatly, whoever produced these vases was a highly skilled artist thats for sure.The condition is lovely with really sharp gilding .Appro...
