This Victorian five stone ring dates from circa 1890 and is made from 18ct yellow gold. The piece holds five graduated old mine cut diamonds in claw settings above an open gallery with scrolled detailing, leading to decorative shoulders and a slim D-shaped band. The inner band carries an 18CT stamp. From the edge of one outer diamond to the other measures 1.62 cm, while the ring is 0.51 cm at the widest point and sits 0.36 cm from the finger. The gold band shows a polished finish in a warm yellow tone, contrasting with the bright white sparkle of the diamonds. Suitable for everyday wear on a finger, this antique jewellery item works well as an engagement ring, an anniversary token or a dress ring for formal occasions, pairing easily with other gold and diamond accessories.

Five stone rings gained significant popularity during the late Victorian era, often given as symbols of love, commitment, or anniversary milestones. The five stones traditional represented stages of a relationship or qualities such as love, trust, devotion, respect, and loyalty.

Late Victorian diamond rings were predominantly crafted in 18ct yellow gold or high-carat gold alloys, sometimes paired with silver or platinum tops. The diamonds were hand-cut during this period, most notably old mine cuts or old European cuts, secured within carved claw settings.

Authentic Victorian rings often feature period hallmarks stamped inside the shank, such as 18CT or regional assay marks. Additionally, the diamonds display hand-faceted characteristics including small tables, deep pavilions, and open culets, accompanied by hand-carved gallery scrollwork.

An antique five stone diamond ring offers versatility, functioning well as a standalone statement piece or stacked alongside plain modern yellow gold bands. The low-profile carved setting allows it to nest comfortably beside traditional wedding rings or minimalist contemporary bands.

Clean the ring using warm water, mild soap, and a soft-bristled brush to remove dust from behind the stone settings. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or ultrasonic baths, and have a jeweller regularly inspect the claws to ensure stones remain secure.
