Antique Edwardian 2.00ct White Opal and 0.16ct Diamond, 18ct Yellow Gold Five Stone Ring (1905)

1900 - 1920
For Sale by AC Silver
Description

A fine and impressive antique 2.00 carat white opal and 0.16 carat diamond, 18 carat yellow gold five stone ring; part of our antique jewellery and estate jewelry collections.

This fine and impressive five stone ring has been crafted in 18 carat yellow gold.

The pierced decorated frame is ornamented with five claw set cabochon cut white opals, totalling 2cts, in a graduating linear design.

The main setting is further embellished with eight pavé set mine cut diamonds, set in sequence with the main gemstones.

The pierced decorated shoulders integrate with the main setting and blend seamlessly with the plain ring shank.

This stunning dress ring is hallmarked with the maker's mark, the gold guarantee mark (crown), the 18ct gold mark (18), the Birmingham Assay Office hallmark (anchor) and the date letter for 1905 (f).

This impressive opal ring is supplied with an IDGL diamond and gemstone grading report card.

Such examples with full deeply struck hallmarks and interspersed opals are becoming increasingly difficult to locate and indicate the high quality of the ring.

This five stone opal ring in gold is a refined gift for anniversaries, October birthdays, or romantic occasions, appealing to those who admire the opal’s enchanting play of colour.

Images do not always reflect the true colour and brilliance of gemstones and diamonds. The video however provides a truer representation of the actual colour and showcases each stone.

Condition

This antique gold opal ring is excellent quality, set with impressive opals displaying a scintillating play of colour and presence.

The diamonds display a fine white colour and brilliance.

The ring is an excellent gauge of gold and is in excellent condition.

The hallmarks to the interior of the shank are all clear, apart from the maker's mark; this indicates the piece has seen little use and careful wear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this stunning antique opal jewellery.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian opal jewellery dates from the early 20th century and features light, refined settings crafted in yellow gold or platinum designed to showcase the natural play-of-colour in high-grade opals.

These pieces were typically constructed from 18ct yellow gold or platinum, integrating natural cabochon-cut opals paired with small rose-cut or single-cut diamond accents within carved claw settings.

Authentic Edwardian rings frequently feature official British hallmarks stamped inside the band, detailing the gold purity, assay office, and date letter, along with hand-finished gallery detailing.

An antique gemstone ring can be worn as a standalone statement piece on the index or middle finger, or combined with plain gold wedding bands for a curated mixed-era ring stack.

Opals require gentle care due to their water content; clean them using a soft dry cloth and avoid exposure to water immersion, steam, ultrasonic cleaners, and harsh chemical agents.
