Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 19th-century English country kitchen dresser is constructed from pine and finished in a dark blue paint with visible surface wear and distressing. The upper section has a dentil moulded cornice, two multi-pane sliding glazed doors with wooden glazing bars, and internal white painted shelving. The lower base section contains three small drawers above three cupboard doors with fielded panels and round wooden knobs. The piece stands 210 cm high, 197 cm wide, and 56 cm deep. Today, this tall storage unit works well in a country kitchen or dining room for displaying tableware and storing kitchenware. The upper section provides open display space behind the glass doors, while the enclosed lower cupboards and drawers offer concealed storage for everyday items.

FAQs

An English kitchen dresser is a two-part piece of storage furniture traditionally featuring a lower cupboard or drawer base topped with open shelving or glazed cabinets. Emerging in the 17th and 18th centuries, these dressers were designed to store and display crockery, glassware, and kitchen utensils.

Traditional kitchen dressers were primarily constructed from solid native hardwoods like oak and fruitwood, or softwoods such as pine which were frequently painted. Construction features typically include hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon joinery, glass panes secured with putty or timber beads, and hand-turned wooden knobs.

Authentic period dressers exhibit signs of age such as hand-planed backboards, irregular glass panes with minor imperfections, naturally worn paint layers, and hand-forged or early cast hardware. Examining drawer construction for single-lapped dovetails and checking for timber shrinkage around panels also helps determine age.

A glazed dresser can be incorporated into modern kitchens or dining spaces by housing minimalist ceramics, folded linens, or glassware alongside curated decorative items. Contrast can be created by pairing a painted finish with sleek contemporary dining furniture or neutral wall palettes.

To preserve painted timber, dust regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and avoid using harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive sprays. Maintain stable interior humidity levels to prevent timber movement, and keep the dresser out of direct sunlight to protect historic paint finishes.
