FAQs

A 19th-century gilt brass table lamp is an accent lighting fixture produced during the Victorian or Regency periods, characterised by a cast metal body treated with a gold leaf or electroplated finish and styled with classical architectural features.

These lamps were constructed using heavy cast brass or bronze components, often hand-chased for detail and gilded using mercury gilding or electroplating methods, anchored by a weighted base for stability.

Authentic period pieces exhibit natural surface patination and oxidisation, hand-cut screw threads, substantial weight, and minor irregularities from traditional casting processes rather than modern seamless molding.

Position the lamp base on a contemporary wooden sideboard or desk, paired with a modern neutral fabric shade to create contrast between clean interior lines and historic metalwork.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and avoid using harsh chemical cleansers or abrasive metal polishes that can strip the delicate gilded layer or original patina.
