Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

A glazed mahogany bookcase from the 19th century is a tall storage cabinet fitted with glass-fronted doors designed to store and display books while protecting them from dust. Frequently produced during the Victorian period, these cabinets were key functional features in home libraries, studies, and reception rooms.

These cabinets were constructed using solid mahogany and mahogany veneers applied over timber secondary woods such as pine or oak. Features include hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, cylinder glass panes set within timber door frames, and carved architectural mouldings.

Authentic pieces display period indicators such as hand-sawn backboards, slight imperfections or air bubbles in early glass panes, hand-cut drawer dovetails, and original brass lock escutcheons. Natural wear and patina around handles and keyholes also confirm age.

Position the cabinet against a neutral or dark backdrop in a living area, dining room, or wide hallway to create a focal point. Use the glass shelves to arrange curated collections, glassware, or ceramics alongside traditional volumes to integrate the cabinet into contemporary spaces.

Dust the exterior regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically to maintain the wood finish. Clean glass panels by applying cleaner to a cloth rather than directly onto the glass to protect adjacent timber frames from moisture.
