Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

This 18th century Georgian bureau bookcase is constructed from oak with glass and brass hardware, presenting a warm brown colour throughout. The upper section comprises a two-door glazed cabinet divided into multiple small glass panes, while the middle section features a slant-front writing desk above pull-out candle slides. The lower section incorporates a bank of smaller upper drawers over two larger drawers fitted with brass drop handles and escutcheons. The whole piece is raised on turned bun feet and shows visible surface wear, patination, and grain variation across the timber, with an upper crown moulding and separate base construction. The measurements are 208 cm high, 93 cm wide, and 56 cm deep. In a home today, this piece suits a gentleman's library, study, or traditional living space, providing practical storage combined with a dedicated writing surface. The lower drawers accommodate stationery or household items, while the upper glazed shelves display books or decorative objects. The desk front folds down to serve as a writing slope, and the candle slides extend outwards to hold lighting above the workspace. Placed against a study wall, it operates as a functional workstation and bookcase unit while adding period character to the interior.

A bureau bookcase is a dual-function piece of furniture featuring a slant-front writing desk at the base and a glazed or solid-door cabinet above for book storage, popularised in 18th-century Europe.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from solid woods such as oak, walnut, or mahogany, featuring hand-dovetailed drawers, brass hardware, and hand-blown glass panes in the upper doors.

Look for hand-sawn back panels, hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, original brass escutcheons with aged patina, slide-out candle supports, and subtle irregularities in historical hand-blown glass.

Position the piece as a focal point in a home office, hallway, or living room, pairing its timber tones with light wall colours, contemporary artwork, and curated ceramics or books inside the glazed section.

Clean surfaces regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood and protect its natural patina, avoiding placement near direct heat sources.
