Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian bureau bookcase dates from the late 18th or early 19th century and is constructed from solid oak with a warm brown finish. The piece comprises two sections, featuring twin upper doors with fielded panels, a slanted drop-front writing desk, and an arrangement of exterior drawers fitted with brass handles and escutcheons. Unusual cut out bracket feet support the base of the cabinet. The wood displays natural grain variations typical of antique oak furniture. Measuring 175 cm high, 80 cm wide, and 47 cm deep, this compact storage unit provides practical workspace and shelving. It suits placement in a traditional study, home office, or living room for document storage and display purposes.

FAQs

A bureau bookcase is a dual-part furniture piece combining a slant-front writing desk at the base with a cabinet or bookcase section fitted above it.

Traditional early bureaus are constructed from solid oak featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, fielded door panels, brass drop handles, and hand-planed backboards.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-crafted drawer linings, period-correct brass escutcheons, signs of hand-saw marks on structural panels, and natural wood shrinkage along timber joints.

Place the piece in a study, library, or living room alongside neutral wall shades, contemporary table lamps, and minimal ceramic accessories to balance the timber structure.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry cloth, apply clear beeswax along the wood grain annually, and position the furniture away from direct radiators to prevent timber movement.
