This early nineteenth-century Regency solid bronze hanging lantern originates from England and dates to around 1820. The large hexagonal piece has clear glass panels to all sides framed in a tapered structure finished in verdigris green. Cast ram head mounts and acanthus leaf motifs decorate the top edges, accented by six acorn finials at the bottom corners and suspended from iron chains. The lantern measures Height: 38cm (15.08"), Width: 42cm (16.67"), Depth: 42cm (16.67"). In a contemporary home, this ceiling lighting fixture provides grand overhead illumination in an entrance hallway, grand landing, or high-ceilinged reception room. The solid bronze construction brings classic Regency character to period interiors, while the transparent glass panels allow light to spread evenly across the surrounding space.

Early nineteenth-century English hall lanterns from the Regency period typically feature classical Neoclassical motifs such as rams heads, anthemion leaves, or urns. They are characterized by geometric metal frames, often in bronze or brass, suspended by chains to enclose clear glass panels that protected early light sources from drafts.

Authentic period lanterns were constructed using cast bronze, wrought iron, or sheet brass, often combined with hand-cut or blown glass panels. Metal frames were frequently finished with natural patinas, gilding, or oxidisation to suit grand architectural interiors.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-finished details, cast metal joinery, and natural patination such as verdigris on bronze. Inspecting the metalwork for hand-chased ornamentation, irregular hand-blown glass, and historic chain connections helps verify age and construction techniques.

A period hanging lantern serves as a focal point in entryways, stairwells, or high-ceilinged corridors. It pairs well with both traditional architectural features and clean modern minimalist spaces by adding historical depth and material contrast.

Dust the metal frame regularly with a dry, soft cloth and clean glass panels using a mild glass cleaner applied to a microfibre towel. Avoid abrasive polishes or chemical cleaners, as these can strip away historic patination and surface oxidisation.
