Description

A rather good looking and handsome little 2 drawer tallboy/cabinet in oak with its attractive bowed shape and ogee bracket feet. These work perfectly well in so many spaces - bedroom, bathroom, living room or kitchen. This one benefits from a careful repolish in our workshop.

As mentioned we have 2 drawers and a little 2 door cupboard underneath with a fixed shelf. The piece sits well and is ready for placing with sensible historic wear, nothing nasty or particularly off putting.

Billy Hunt and Co is located on a large Victorian farm just a short country drive from the Rangemore village, a designated conservation area, which was built by Michael Thomas Bass in the 1850s to house the Bass Rangemore Estate workers consisting mainly of Victorian redbrick cottages and the occasional barn.

Our home is a classic Victorian designed and well equipped late 19th century 2 story red brick built barn of some 4000 sq feet nestled in classic English countryside, which enjoyed a careful full renovation in 2000. The estate still benefits being managed in the traditional manner with an Estate Manger, estate carpenter, gardeners etc. A rather delightful place to have as our work space.

Martina, there is no Billy at Billy hunt, has led the team since 2103 and is an interior designer qualified from The Inchbald School of Design London whose previous working life included such clients as Vertu, Aston Martin and Johnnie Walker to name a few.

Please do not hesitate to call or email if you have any questions on the pieces that may interest you - Many thanks Martina

This medium brown oak tallboy cabinet dates from the 1930s Art Deco period and exhibits a distinctive bowed shape with flared side panels. The structure incorporates two upper drawers fitted with carved wooden bar handles above a double-door cupboard resting on ogee bracket feet. Following a careful repolish in the workshop, the timber shows sensible historic wear while maintaining a clean appearance suitable for placement in a bedroom, bathroom, living room, or kitchen. The cabinet measures 102 cm in height, 76.5 cm in width, and 44 cm in depth. Inside the lower section, a fixed shelf divides the cupboard space to provide organised storage alongside the two upper drawers. The piece works well in various domestic settings as a practical storage unit that combines traditional timber construction with characteristic 1930s design elements. Standing firmly on its shaped feet, the tallboy is ready for immediate placement in the home.

An Art Deco tallboy cabinet typically features a vertical design incorporating drawers and a cupboard compartment, produced during the 1920s and 1930s with streamlined geometric proportions.

Cabinets from this era were frequently constructed from solid oak or oak veneers, featuring hand-fitted dovetail drawer joints and matching carved wooden handles.

Authentic pieces display period construction methods such as solid drawer bases, geometric timber details, original wooden drawer pulls, and smooth-running timber runners.

A tallboy functions well as compact storage in hallways, bedrooms, or dining spaces, pairing neatly with contemporary minimal decor or classic mid-century furnishings.

Regular dusting with a soft dry microfiber cloth and an occasional application of beeswax polish will protect the natural timber finish and prevent drying out.
