This pair of French Rococo Revival ormolu brass candlesticks dates to 1850 and brings an opulent accent to an interior. Cast in a warm gold finish, each candlestick features an ornate scrolling tripod base with sculptural scrollwork feet, a slender turned central stem, and a prominent palm leaf collar beneath the candle cup. Clear glass crystal drops hang in a cascading fringe from the upper collar, dangling from faceted rosette connectors via metal rings. The warm metallic surface exhibits visible surface patina and textural variation across the intricate casting details. Each piece measures 34 cm high, 18 cm wide, and 18 cm deep. Suitable for display in a formal reception room, these candlesticks sit neatly upon a mantelpiece, a console table, or a dining sideboard. They add traditional character and reflective sparkle when placed near a hearth or beneath ambient lighting. The balanced proportions make them adaptable for surface styling in period or eclectic interiors.

Ormolu refers to gilt-bronze or brass techniques popularized in 18th-century France, where finely detailed metal castings were gilded to achieve a lasting golden finish. When combined with faceted glass or crystal drops, these candlesticks, also known as girandoles or lustres, were designed to refract candlelight across grand interiors.

These lighting pieces are primarily constructed from cast brass or bronze, which is chased, polished, and finished with gilding or gold lacquer. The hanging accents consist of cut lead glass or crystal drops attached with wire pins.

Authentic period ormolu features detailed hand-chased metalwork, heavy solid castings, and natural wear or oxidisation on the gilded surface. Multi-part constructions typically reveal threaded screw joints, while the glass prisms often display minor hand-cut variations.

Positioning these pieces on a streamlined wooden console table or marble fireplace mantelpiece creates a balanced visual contrast between classical metalwork and clean contemporary lines. Pairing them with simple wax tapers allows the ornate metallic details to remain the focal point.

Metal elements should be dusted with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh abrasive polishes that can strip original surface gilding. Crystal drops can be wiped gently with a damp cloth or carefully unhooked and washed individually in warm, soapy water.
