Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. This Victorian oil lamp from 1890 stands on a stepped square brass base supporting a fluted Corinthian column shaft. Above the column sits a pale green glass reservoir decorated with painted floral motifs, surmounted by a brass twin burner with a bayonet fit and a messenger's collar. A clear glass chimney projects through the center of an etched glass shade with floral designs. The lamp measures 79.4 cm high, 20.7 cm wide, and 20.7 cm deep. It functions as a decorative lighting piece suited for placement on a sideboard top within a gentleman's library or a traditional living room setting.

FAQs

A Corinthian column oil lamp is a late 19th-century lighting fixture featuring a base styled after classical Greek Corinthian pillars, complete with acanthus leaf decoration and a fluted shaft.

These lamps typically feature cast brass or electroplated metal columns mounted on stepped plinths, combined with glass fuel reservoirs, brass burners, and etched or frosted glass shades.

Authentic period examples display detailed cast brass capitals, crisp fluting along the metal column, original stamped burner dials, and hand-etched glass shades.

Position the lamp on a sideboard, desk, or mantelpiece to introduce vertical height and architectural detail, either as a decorative accent or fitted with an electrical conversion.

Clean glass elements using warm water and a mild detergent, while wiping metal bases with a dry microfibre cloth to avoid removing the natural aged patina.
