Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of French twin arm wall lights dates from the early 20th century in the French Rococo style. Made from wood, metal, and toleware with a muted gold finish, each light features an ornate pierced wooden floral basket backplate topped with an acanthus leaf finial and adorned with scrollwork arms, leaf bobeche drip pans, and white candle sleeves. The wooden surfaces display visible carving, mouldings, and pierced decoration, complemented by scrolling metal arms and elongated proportions. Each light measures 56 cm high, 23 cm wide, and 15 cm deep. These wall lights suit placement in a home today above a sideboard, in a hallway, or flanking a living room mirror to provide traditional accent lighting.

FAQs

French Rococo wall lighting typically features asymmetric scrollwork, carved acanthus leaves, floral motifs, and organic curves. These fixtures were designed to reflect light softy off gilded or light-painted wood and plaster surfaces.

Hand-carved wood, such as beech, lime, or walnut, served as the primary structure. The surfaces were often finished with gesso and gold leaf or painted, while metal arms held the candles or light fittings.

Authentic period pieces show subtle variations in hand-carving marks, evidence of historic joinery, and natural wear to the gilded gesso layer revealing the underlying wood grain.

Mount the pair symmetrically to frame a central element such as a mantlepiece mirror, chimney breast, or hallway artwork. Using warm low-wattage bulbs preserves the atmospheric quality of classical accent lighting.

Dust regularly using a soft dry brush or microfibre cloth to clean intricate carved recesses. Avoid water, liquid polish, or chemical cleaners that can damage fragile gilding and delicate gesso coatings.
