This Edwardian gentleman's watch chain comes in solid sterling silver and gold, rendered in a silver and gold colour palette. The piece takes the form of a double Albert chain comprising interlocking curb links joined to a T-bar fastener at the top, two swivel clasps, and a decorative pendant drop suspending a shield fob with detailed engraving. The silver metal exhibits a polished metallic finish. Measuring 44 cm long when outstretched, the chain weighs 50 grams. Owners typically keep items of this type in a study or library drawer, or display them within a collector cabinet alongside other vintage horological accessories.

Named after Prince Albert, the Albert watch chain emerged in the nineteenth century as a functional method to secure pocket watches to waistcoats using a T-bar and swivel clasps.

Edwardian watch chains were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, gold, or rolled gold, typically utilizing interlocking curb links, T-bars, and cast metal fobs.

Authentic British pieces bear full hallmarks stamped across the T-bar, clasps, and individual links, indicating the metal purity grade, assay office location, and date letter.

Watch chains can be worn traditionally with formal waistcoats, wrapped around the wrist as a bracelet, or worn as a necklace with suspended fobs and lockets.

Clean sterling silver chains gently using a soft silver polishing cloth, avoiding chemical liquid dips that may strip natural aged oxidation from the link recesses.
