FAQs

French gilt bronze urn lamps from the turn of the twentieth century reflect Neoclassical and Louis XVI revival influences, combining classical urn profiles with relief ornament such as putti, floral garlands, and mythic motifs.

These fixtures were manufactured using cast bronze, often gilded via electroplating or mercury fire-gilding (ormolu), with hand-chased details added to accent decorative elements before being fitted for electrical components.

Authentic pieces feature crisp, hand-finished metal chasing, substantial physical weight from solid cast bronze, visible threaded construction rods beneath the base, and soft oxidation in low-relief areas.

Positioning a symmetrical pair on a sideboard, console table, or wide mantelpiece creates structural balance, anchoring modern furnishings with classical metalwork accents.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid moisture, liquid polishes, or abrasive cleaning compounds that can strip or discolour delicate gilt layers.
