This silver plated pedestal tazza dates from the art deco period in an English traditional style. The piece presents a bright silver finish with light surface scratches, two small patches of wear to the underside of the bowl, an extremely minor ding, and maker marks impressed to the underside for Philip Ashberry and Sons Sheffield. Notable details include a shallow circular dish, a moulded stem with a prominent central ring, and a stepped circular foot that sits firmly and balanced without a detachable screw mechanism. Measuring 15.5 cm in height and 24.2 cm in width, this comport dish is proportioned for display on a sideboard top. In a contemporary home, this serveware item functions well for presenting fruit or sweets during dining occasions. It also serves as a decorative accent piece within an English country house setting when placed on a living room surface or entrance hallway table.

A tazza or comport is a shallow dish supported by a central stem and base, designed for serving fruit, sweetmeats, or acting as a decorative display piece. Widely produced in the 19th and early 20th centuries, these items served as key components of formal dining arrangements.

These items are typically constructed from a base alloy such as nickel silver, brass, or copper, which is electroplated with a layer of pure silver. The stem and foot are formed through turning or moulding before being soldered to the dish.

Authentic pieces generally carry makers stamps or EPNS (Electroplated Nickel Silver) hallmarks stamped on the underside of the base or rim. Period pieces also exhibit natural wear patterns, minor surface oxidation in detailing, and characteristic weight consistent with base metal construction.

A pedestal tazza functions as a focal point on a sideboard, dining table, or console. It can be presented unadorned to showcase the reflective metal surface, or utilized to hold fruit, foliage, or decorative objects.

Wash gently with warm water and mild liquid soap using a non-abrasive cloth, ensuring the piece is thoroughly dried immediately. To remove tarnish, apply a gentle specialised silver polish with soft cotton wool, avoiding harsh chemicals that may strip the silver layer.
