This eighteenth-century Georgian ale glass comprises a clear lead glass construction with an extended rounded funnel-shaped bowl, a balustroid stem with a basal knop, and a conical folded foot. The bowl bears wheel-engraved motifs of a single hop flower and a single barley ear. Additional visual elements include a rough pontil mark and a collector's sticker on the underside of the foot, alongside age-related wear to the rim of the foot. The piece measures 15.8 cm high, 7.1 cm wide, and 5.3 cm deep. Positioned on a sideboard top, this item suits a gentleman's library setting. The clear glass format accommodates period beverage service or functions as a display object within a collection of eighteenth-century stemware.

A Georgian ale glass is an 18th-century English drinking vessel crafted specifically for serving ale. Typically featuring a tall, slender flute bowl to retain effervescence, these glasses often incorporate distinctive stem formations and wheel-engraved motifs representing hops and barley.

During the 18th century, English glassmakers used lead glass, also known as flint glass, which incorporated lead oxide. This formulation provided clarity, weight, and a brilliant resonance, allowing artisans to execute precise wheel engravings and free-blown stem constructions.

Authentic Georgian stemware displays characteristic production marks, including a pontil scar or smoothed pontil mark under the foot, irregular hand-blown proportions, and tiny air bubbles or seeds within the glass matrix. Features such as a folded foot rim were designed to strengthen the base against chipping during hand washing.

Antique glass flutes can be displayed inside a glass-fronted cabinet, arranged on a brass drinks tray atop a sideboard, or lit within a open shelving unit to highlight the delicate wheel engravings and natural refraction of light.

Clean Georgian lead glass by hand using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes that cause thermal shock. Dry immediately with a soft, lint-free microfibre cloth, and store away from direct sunlight and high-vibration areas.
