This compact mid-nineteenth-century Victorian wardrobe dates from around 1860 and takes the form of a two-door cabinet constructed from solid mahogany and decorated with highly figured flame mahogany veneers. The exterior displays warm reddish-brown tones across the symmetrical wood grain, set off by a moulded cornice, a veneered frieze, Gothic pointed arched panel doors, and a matching plinth. Practical elements include a small keyhole escutcheon for the right-hand door and original turned bun feet at the front. The piece stands 167.5 cm high, 115.5 cm wide, and 45.5 cm deep. Designed for everyday storage, this piece suits placement in a bedroom or dressing room, providing interior space configured with adjustable shelving. The construction allows the wardrobe to disassemble into flat sections, making it practical for rooms with difficult access. The surfaces have been cleaned and waxed, preserving the timber grain while maintaining the traditional appearance. The combination of classic Victorian proportions and flame mahogany panels ensures it functions as both a decorative furnishing and a storage solution in a traditional or period interior.

Produced around 18501870, mid-Victorian wardrobes often feature rich flame mahogany veneers, arch-panelled doors influenced by Gothic or Classical revival styles, and sturdy bun feet.

Cabinetmakers typically constructed the carcass from solid timber faced with selected flame mahogany veneers, featuring hand-cut joinery, brass key plates, and solid panelled backboards.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-planed secondary timbers such as pine or oak inside, period-correct brass hardware, book-matched veneer work, and natural surface patination.

Position the cabinet as a standalone focal storage piece in a dressing room, hallway, or bedroom, contrasting its rich timber tones against neutral wall colours.

Apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice per year along the direction of the grain, maintain consistent room humidity to protect the veneer, and place away from direct heat sources.
