Description

A Swedish folk art cabinet dated 1797, with a tall architectural form and richly decorated façade combining figured timber with hand-painted polychrome ornament. The stepped pediment is centred with the inscription “ANNO 1797” and surrounded by scrolling floral motifs, geometric borders and stylised foliage in muted ochre, cream, green, blue and red. Similar painted panels continue across the upper doors, drawer front and lower section, giving the piece a strongly regional decorative character while retaining the symmetry and formality of antique Scandinavian furniture.
