Good George II Studded Leather Chest 18th Century

Description

This rare George II brass studded leather chest is a really good example in remarkable original order.

The handsome chest dates from the mid 18th century circa 1750 and amazingly still has its original key and fully working lock !

(Pretty much unheard of even in museum collection examples.)

The trunk has a hinged domed top and front decorated with scrolls of brass head studding that swirl to encircle bold red leather panels. This even has its beautiful inner fabric liner that again is in remarkably clean condition and is a most appealing floral design with lovely colour palette. The chest retains its original tin lining to the base, hand forged iron lockplate, clasp and carrying handles all in good servicable order.

The chest measures 82cm by 42cm by 49cm high.

Rams Head Antiques is a family business based in Wolsingham in Weardale where we have had shop premises for 28 years. The shop is generally open every Saturday from 11 am till 3 pm.
