This Edwardian English antique object comprises a set of solid sterling silver grape shears housed in a fitted presentation case. The shears display bright silver polished metal surfaces, curved handles with scroll detailing, finger rings, and blunt-tipped blades, measuring 16.5 cm in length. The accompanying case features a dark exterior and an interior lined with gathered blue satin on the upper lid and dark blue velvet on the base, secured by a metal clasp on the side. Items of this nature sit on a sideboard top in a dining room or living space, serving as a period decorative accessory for serving fruit during meals or gatherings. The materials combine silver, leather, velvet, and satin.

Grape shears emerged as specialized dining utensils during the nineteenth century, gaining widespread popularity in Victorian and Edwardian formal table settings. They were designed to neatly snip individual portions of grapes from a larger cluster without damaging the remaining fruit or crushing the skin.

High-end grape shears were primarily forged from sterling silver or fine silver plate. The accompanying presentation cases were typically constructed from wood wrapped in leather or faux leather, lined internally with silk, velvet, or satin to protect the polished metal surface from scratches.

Authentic British sterling silver pieces bear official assay office hallmarks, including the lion passant mark for sterling purity, a specific town mark, a makers mark, and a date letter corresponding to the exact year of manufacture.

Cased silver dining accessories are frequently displayed open inside glazed dining room cabinets, on sideboard surfaces, or arranged alongside formal tableware on a dressed dining table as historic accent pieces.

Sterling silver should be maintained using a soft, non-abrasive cotton cloth and specialised silver polish to remove natural oxidisation. Pieces are best stored in original velvet-lined cases or anti-tarnish cloth bags in low-humidity environments.
