A pair of Victorian solid sterling silver serving spoons comes complete with a fitted presentation case lined in red satin and black velvet. The spoons have fluted shell bowls and heavily chased handles, and the interior lid of the black case displays gold lettering. The piece measures approx. 19 cm long by almost 5 cm wide and has a combined weight of 88 grams excluding the case. This cased set suits a dining room sideboard top or a display cabinet, providing an authentic historic accent for traditional table settings or special occasions. The spoons bring period craftsmanship to the table when serving side dishes or desserts, while the enclosed presentation box allows for safe storage when not in use.

Victorian sterling silver serving spoons often feature ornate detailing, such as fluted or scalloped shell-shaped bowls and handles decorated with chased floral or scroll engraving. During this period, specialised table silver became popular, including dedicated serving utensils for fruit, berries, and preserves.

The spoons themselves were crafted from hallmark-tested sterling silver, consisting of 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability. Presentation cases were constructed from timber, upholstered externally in leatherette or velvet, and lined internally with silk, satin, or velvet to protect the polished metal.

Authentic British sterling silver from around 1900 features a set of official hallmarks stamped into the metal. These include the lion passant for sterling purity, a city assay mark, a date letter, and a registered makers mark.

Cased silver spoon sets can be displayed open on a sideboard top or within a glass-fronted cabinet to showcase the contrasting lining and detailed silversmithing. Alternatively, the spoons can be integrated into formal table settings alongside modern tableware to add historic texture.

Sterling silver should be cleaned using a soft cloth and a specialised silver polish to remove tarnish without scratching the metal surface. Avoid abrasive cleaners or dishwasher use, and store the silver in its original velvet-lined case to minimise exposure to moisture and atmospheric sulphur.
