Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late nineteenth century, Victorian cabinetmakers embraced historical revival styles, including Renaissance and Gothic idioms. Carved oak ottomans and box benches were produced to offer decorative relief-carved panel work alongside functional domestic storage for linens and household items.

These pieces were constructed from solid oak, chosen for its strength and prominent grain structure. Upholstered tops frequently utilised natural leather or heavy textile insets secured with brass studding, while interior compartments were built from solid timber.

Authentic pieces display historical joinery, such as hand-cut dovetails and pegged joints, alongside natural age-related oxidisation in the timber grain. Carvings from this era exhibit depth and slight variations indicative of hand-finishing rather than uniform modern machine routing.

A carved oak storage bench works well situated in a spacious entry hallway, positioned at the foot of a bed, or placed beneath a window bay. The deep wood tones complement neutral wall palettes and provide functional storage while introducing historic texture.

Oak timber should be dusted regularly with a soft dry cloth and treated periodically with beeswax polish. Leather tops require gentle wiping with dedicated leather conditioner to prevent drying, and the piece should be positioned away from direct heat sources to avoid timber shrinkage.
