Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian silver vinaigrette is a small decorative container, typically produced between 1714 and 1837, designed to hold a sponge soaked in aromatic liquids or vinegar. These items were carried or worn as pendants to mask unpleasant urban odours and revive fainting individuals.

Silver vinaigrettes were primarily crafted from sterling silver, frequently featuring a silver-gilt (vermeil) interior. The gilded lining was essential to prevent acidic vinegar mixtures from corroding the sterling silver body.

Authentic Georgian silver items feature struck hallmarks, including the makers mark, sovereigns head, town mark, date letter, and lion passant for sterling purity. Examining these hallmarks with a loupe confirms the origin, date, and artisan who created the object.

Small silver vinaigrettes can be displayed within glass cloches, velvet-lined shadow boxes, or on decorative trays alongside other period metalwork. They can also be integrated into jewellery displays or worn as unique pendant necklaces.

Clean silver-gilt items gently with a soft microfibre cloth and specialised, non-abrasive silver polish, taking care to avoid harsh chemical cleaners on gilded surfaces. Store in a low-humidity environment inside tarnish-resistant pouches to minimise oxidisation.
