Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This freestanding two-part kitchen cupboard dates from the 1910 period and follows a rustic farmhouse style. Constructed from pine, it has a slate blue painted finish and stands on a plinth base. The upper section contains glazed cabinet doors fitted with turned wooden knobs, while the lower base incorporates a single drawer and panelled cupboard doors with matching round wooden pulls. Additional details include moulded cornices and exterior brass hooks mounted on the right side. The entire piece measures 183 cm high, 96 cm wide, and 49 cm deep. In a modern home, this practical storage unit finds its natural place in a kitchen, dining room, or pantry. It provides ample space for storing crockery, glassware, and kitchen essentials behind its protective glazed and panelled doors, combining display utility with enclosed storage. The traditional slate blue painted surface makes it suitable for both country-style interiors and more contemporary spaces seeking a functional heritage storage solution.

FAQs

A two-part kitchen cupboard, often referred to as a dresser or housekeepers cabinet, comprises a lower storage base unit paired with an upper glazed or open shelving section. Historically crafted from pine and painted for timber protection, these freestanding units provided versatile storage for crockery and food items in 19th and early 20th-century households.

Traditional painted pine dressers feature solid pine construction, often utilising dovetail joinery for drawers and tongue-and-groove paneling for cabinet backboards. Glazed upper doors are fitted with individual glass panes, while hardware typically consists of turned timber knobs and iron or brass hinges.

Authentic period pieces generally exhibit natural wear patterns, hand-planed backboards, square-cut nails or early screws, and multiple historic layers of paint. Structural indicators such as hand-cut dovetail joints and natural shrinkage gaps in timber panels also confirm period construction.

In modern interiors, a painted pine dresser can serve as a functional larder, china display, or linen cabinet in a dining room, kitchen, or hallway. Contemporary styling often pairs the muted painted finish with neutral ceramics, glassware, or curated books to create a visual contrast.

Dust the painted surface regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Avoid harsh chemical detergents or abrasive cleaners that may strip the painted finish, and position the unit away from direct heat sources or high humidity to prevent pine shrinkage and timber movement.
