Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A secretaire bookcase is a dual-purpose piece of storage furniture originating in the 18th century, combining a glazed upper section for books with a lower chest of drawers containing a drop-front writing desk.

19th-century secretaires were typically constructed using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over pine frameworks, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, brass keyhole escutcheons, and individual glass panes set within wooden astragal bars.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of manual craftsmanship, such as irregular hand-cut dovetail joints inside the drawers, original mouth-blown glass with subtle distortions, period-appropriate astragal glazing bars, and natural timber shrinkage on the back panels.

Position the piece as a functional focal point in a home office, library, or reception room, using the glazed upper cabinet to display curated ceramics or books while utilising the drop-front drawer as a concealed work surface.

Keep mahogany furniture away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent timber cracking or finish fading, and apply a dedicated beeswax polish annually following the direction of the wood grain.
