A Mint Clean Victorian Antique Pine Moulded Knockdown Wardrobe to Wax/paint

19th century
Description

This wardrobe is in good condition. We have professionally stripped and restored it ready to wax or paint.

We can wax this in a lovely antique brown bri wax please email or telephone for a quote if you are interested.

The wardrobe would look well in an old or modern property in a large bedroom amongst similar antique pine furniture for storage. Its main attribute is that it does knockdown into many pieces enabling it to go up 100% of staircases. It is simple for you to put together using wooden chucks.

The wardrobe stands on square back legs and round turned front bun feet supporting the main section. There are two large doors. Each door has one panel that is fielded and a moulding around the edge. There is a moulding to the top that is stepped into the corners. Behind the doors there are three shelves for storage of many clothes. More shelves could be placed in if required or a hanging rail placed inside. There is a key to lock the doors. The top has a standard graduated cornice. There are fluted columns and carved corbles. The sides are also panelled and the panels are fielded.

The height is 194cm, the width is 157cm and the depth is 64cm. The internal depth is 49cm.

Delivery Terms

WE OFFER FREE DELIVERY TO ENGLAND, WALES, AND SCOTLAND (BELOW PERTH)

Shipping /delivery is equally as important to us as the item of furniture itself. It is simple; we deliver everything personally in England / Wales so this way we are 100% sure that the item / furniture reaches our customers safe and sound. We NEVER use couriers. Delivery is generally within 7-14 days of purchase. We guarantee delivery anywhere in England / Wales within 21 days of purchase.

Deliveries to Scotland as far north as Perth are guaranteed within 6 weeks of purchase. If delivery is required above Perth in Scotland please contact James on 07957 392 074 or

james@davidhuntantiques.com for a price.

Deliveries are either carried out by David or James as one member of the team is required to stay in the warehouse, therefore we do require assistance from the van into your hallway with the item of furniture. We have set delivery days and once the van is loaded (a day prior to delivery) David will call customers to arrange a two hour delivery time slot. Customers will also receive a text when delivery is 30 minutes away.

It is really helpful if customers can provide their ‘what3words’ location to make delivery as smooth

as possible, especially properties in rural locations.

Ireland Deliveries

We do use a very good courier company called DVM Service to deliver goods to Ireland. We ask the customer to pay this company direct for the delivery charge and we then liaise with DVM regarding collection of a customer’s item of furniture to be shipped to Ireland.

Europe & Rest of the World

We do not ship to Europe or the Rest of the World.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A knockdown pine wardrobe is a freestanding storage cabinet designed to be completely disassembled into flat components, such as the cornice, base, side panels, and doors. Popular in the Victorian era, this construction allowed large timber furniture to be easily transported up narrow staircases and fitted into upper-floor bedrooms.

Victorian pine wardrobes were typically constructed from solid Scots pine or European red pine softwoods. The joinery featured traditional mortise and tenon joints, hand-planed backboards, and moulded details, frequently held together with wooden wedges, internal hooks, or iron modern bolts.

Authentic nineteenth-century pine wardrobes display hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, irregularities in hand-planed timber surfaces, and natural oxidisation in unexposed areas. Original pieces often feature period-correct hardware marks, cast iron or brass fittings, and structural evidence of historical painted or varnished finishes.

A natural stripped pine wardrobe works well in modern rustic, Scandinavian, or English country interior schemes. Its warm wood tone contrasts effectively against muted wall palettes such as sage green, cream, or charcoal grey, providing visual grounding and substantial functional storage.

Unsealed or stripped pine requires regular application of beeswax or furniture polish to preserve humidity and prevent the timber from drying out or cracking. Keep the item away from direct heat sources such as radiators, and clean surfaces using a dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth without harsh chemical detergents.
