The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1930 floor lamp embodies a Neoclassical Revival style in solid brass and cream fabric with warm brass tones throughout. The heavy quality piece stands on a square stepped base supported by claw feet, rising into a square column stem with a decorative screw adjustment midway up. A tall fabric lampshade with pleated panels and a fringed lower hem tops the telescopic assembly, casting a soft glow downward. New wiring supplies the electrical current for modern use while preserving the traditional aesthetic. Measuring 162 cm high, this lamp fits comfortably at the end of a sofa or within a gentleman's library reading corner. Placed beside a reading chair or writing desk, it provides targeted illumination for evening tasks while serving as a commanding focal point in a traditional interior. The neutral cream and metallic palette integrates effortlessly into existing period schemes or transitional living spaces.

FAQs

A telescopic brass floor lamp is a free-standing luminaire incorporating an adjustable vertical shaft that allows the height of the light source to be altered. Popularised in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these lamps combine functional task lighting with classical brass metalwork decorative elements.

Traditional standard lamps are constructed primarily from solid cast or turned brass, often featuring weighted cast iron concealed within the base to ensure stability. The shades are typically made from woven fabrics such as silk, linen, or cotton with braided trim or fringe.

Authentic period examples demonstrate substantial weight due to heavy base casting, original knurled or decorative brass adjustment collars, and detailed metalwork such as claw feet or column moulding. They will also show evidence of early lamp holder fittings or historical rewiring.

A brass standard lamp provides functional task lighting when positioned beside a main seating area or reading armchair. The warm metallic tones of brass balance both neutral contemporary palettes and traditional dark wood interiors.

Dust the brass column and base regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes that can strip natural patina or protective lacquers. Fabric shades should be cleaned gently using a soft brush attachment on a low-vacuum setting.
