Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late Victorian and Edwardian eras around 1900, silver manufacturers produced specialised flatware for formal dining tables. Serving spoons from this era often incorporated elaborate Rococo Revival motifs, shell shapes, and scrollwork handles to suit elaborate multi-course meals.

Pieces were typically crafted from solid sterling silver, which consists of 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability. Handles and bowls were either hand-chased, die-struck, or cast, with decorative relief work finished by hand polishing.

Authentic items feature official hallmarks or purity stamps, such as Sterling or .925, alongside recognised makers marks from established silversmiths. Additional indicators include precise weight, period-correct scroll or shell iconography, and age-consistent surface wear.

Antique silver spoons can be displayed on a sideboard top inside a glass vessel, integrated into modern dining table arrangements for special events, or mounted within framed shadow boxes as decorative wall accent pieces.

Silver should be cleaned gently using a soft cotton cloth and a specialized silver polish formulated to remove tarnish without stripping fine detail. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners and store pieces in anti-tarnish cloth bags away from direct moisture.
