We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver toast racks originated in Great Britain during the late eighteenth century to hold toasted bread upright, preventing condensation from making the crusts soggy. By the Art Deco era, geometric shapes, loop handles, and ball feet became defining aesthetic characteristics of these breakfast accessories.

Traditional British toast racks were crafted from solid sterling silver, often comprising hand-bent wire divisions soldered to a rectangular or shaped perimeter frame. The structure was supported by ball, wire, or bracket feet, with a central loop handle affixed to the top frame for ease of carrying.

Authentic English sterling silver features a complete set of hallmarks stamped onto the frame, including the lion passant mark for silver purity, a town mark, a date letter, and a makers mark. Pieces from 1929 typically display clean, geometric lines consistent with the Art Deco design movement.

An antique silver toast rack can serve as a functional dining element on a breakfast tray or be repurposed as an elegant desk accessory to organise letters and stationery. It also functions well on a vanity table to display small books or correspondence.

Sterling silver should be polished periodically with a soft cloth and specialist silver foam or polish to remove tarnish without scratching the metal. Storing the piece in a dry, tarnish-resistant cloth or bag when not in use helps preserve its polished finish.
