Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This antique silver-plated toast rack dates from the first half of the 20th century in the Art Deco style, originating from Eugene Leclere of Sheffield. The piece exhibits a silver colour with a polished finish, constructed from a wirework frame with four wishbone dividers, four spherical ball feet, and a central loop handle. The measurements are 12.7 cm in length, 6.5 cm in width, and 12.5 cm in height, with a weight of 154 g. Condition details include light surface marks and light signs of use in keeping with age, with no damage, breaks, or splits. In a modern interior, this versatile holder finds a place on a sideboard top, dining table, or desk, functioning practically to hold toast, letters, or napkins. The design suits an English Country House aesthetic, adding character to breakfast service or tabletop organisation. The piece accommodates four items between its wishbone dividers and stands steadily upon its ball feet.

FAQs

Wishbone-designed toast racks became popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as novelty silver-plated tableware, intended to bring good luck to the breakfast table.

Most early 20th-century toast racks were manufactured using electroplated nickel silver or solid sterling silver, featuring shaped wire dividers attached to a base frame resting on small feet.

Authentic pieces generally feature stamped makers marks, electroplate designations such as EPNS, hand-soldered junctions, and light surface wear consistent with age.

In contemporary settings, these functional objects are frequently repurposed on office desks as stationery or letter holders, or placed on dressing tables to display cards and notes.

Clean gently with warm water and mild detergent, then polish using a soft cotton cloth and specialized silver polish, avoiding abrasive pads that wear down the plating layer.
