This Art Deco solid silver toast rack, made in Sheffield in 1932 by Emile Viner, provides a practical and stylish tabletop accessory for breakfast service. The piece takes the form of a rectangular base with four arched flat divisions and four bracket feet, finished with a keyhole-shaped handle surmounting the central bar. Clear hallmarks for Emile Viner, the Sheffield assay office, the lion passant, and the date letter for 1932 appear near the base. The silver surface presents a bright polished finish with subtle linear reflections. Measuring 8 cm in length, 7 cm in height including the handle, and 4.5 cm in width, this solid silver item suits everyday use at a dining table, breakfast bar, or kitchen island. The compact form holds four slices of toast securely while adding a period touch to modern dining settings.

Art Deco silver tableware from the 1920s and 1930s features geometric forms, clean lines, and angular structures, moving away from ornate Victorian ornamentation toward functional, streamlined aesthetics.

British silver toast racks of this period were typically crafted from solid sterling silver using cast or hand-formed wirework and solid central dividers soldered to a rectangular base frame.

Authentic British sterling silver pieces feature official assay office hallmarks, including the lion passant for sterling quality, a makers mark, and a date letter indicating the year of manufacture.

In a modern interior, a silver toast rack can serve as a functional breakfast accessory on a kitchen island, or be repurposed as a stationery holder on an office desk or a letter rack in a foyer.

Solid silver should be washed gently in warm soapy water and polished periodically using a soft cotton cloth and specialised silver polish to remove tarnish without scratching the metal surface.
