Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Louis XV style furniture is characterised by curvilinear silhouettes, asymmetrical scrollwork, floral carvings, and cabriole legs. Originating in 18th-century France and widely revived in later periods, the style emphasises comfort, fluid lines, and decorative wood carving.

Footstools from this era typically feature dense hardwoods such as beech, walnut, or oak for the carved framework. Internal construction uses traditional upholstery techniques, including jute webbing, coiled steel springs, animal hair padding, and hessian underlying fabrics.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-carved detailing with subtle tool marks, hand-cut joinery such as mortise and tenon joints, and natural age patina on exposed timber. The underside often shows original webbing, iron tack placement, or historical upholstery stamps.

A carved footstool functions as occasional seating, a footrest, or a decorative accent near a sofa or fireplace. Placing a tray on top allows it to serve as an informal coffee table, contrasting structured wooden lines against contemporary textiles.

Maintain the timber frame by dusting with a soft cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish annually to preserve the moisture balance. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and fabric degradation.
