This pair of classical Edwardian sterling silver candlesticks dates from 1903 and comes from the maker Lee & Wigfull in Sheffield. The reflective silver metal objects display detailed decoration including detachable shaped nozzles, shell and floral capitals, garland and bow decorated columns, and sloping square bases finished with gadroon style border edges. The visible carvings depict expressive classical masks on the column capitals, hanging floral swags tied with ribbon bows, and delicate leaf motifs extending onto the corners of the square stepped bases. Each candlestick stands 19 cm high, 10.2 cm wide, and 10.2 cm deep, with a combined weight of 37 Troy Oz including loaded bases. These items suit placement on a sideboard top in a dining room, living room, or hallway to provide functional illumination and traditional decorative accent.

Edwardian silver candlesticks often feature Neoclassical Revival motifs inspired by 18th-century designs, including fluted column shafts, Corinthian capitals, and draped festoons or swags.

These pieces are crafted from sterling silver, containing 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability. Bases were frequently filled with pitch or resin to provide balance and stability.

Authentic British pieces feature official assay hallmarks struck into the metal, including the lion passant for sterling quality, an assay office symbol, a makers mark, and a specific date letter corresponding to the Edwardian era.

Position them as symmetrical accents on a dining table centrepiece, sideboard, or fireplace mantel to introduce structural contrast against contemporary textures.

Clean silver periodically with a soft cloth and non-abrasive silver polish to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage detailed chasing and natural patination.
