This pair of mid 19th century antique Victorian candlesticks originates from the Rococo style and is fashioned from pewter in a dark grey colour. Each candlestick stands 25 cm high with a width and depth of 13 cm, featuring a scalloped drip pan at the top, a turned shaft with a spiral stem and decorative knops, and a lobed base with undulating mouldings. The surface displays minor signs of age including faint blemishes and surface wear on the metal, while the design incorporates internal push-ejectors for removing spent candle stubs. Placed upon a mantelpiece, these candlesticks bring a traditional Victorian aesthetic to a domestic interior, providing both decorative appeal and functional lighting. Their symmetrical design and classical proportions make them suitable for display on a sideboard, side table, or dining table within a period or transitional home setting, complementing traditional furniture arrangements.

Victorian Rococo Revival design emerged in the mid-19th century, drawing inspiration from 18th-century French Rococo ornament. Metalware in this style typically features asymmetrical curves, spiralled shafts, foliage-inspired moulding, and scalloped or lobed bases.

Victorian candlesticks were commonly manufactured from pewter alloys, brass, bronze, silver plate, or solid silver. Pewter pieces were cast using reusable iron or brass moulds, then assembled and finished by hand-turning and polishing.

Authentic 19th-century pewter candlesticks often exhibit touchmarks or makers stamps near the base or rim, visible casting seams inside the socket or column, and natural surface oxidisation. The metal is relatively heavy and soft, often showing minor surface wear consistent with age.

Pairing antique pewter candlesticks on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or dining surface adds texture and historical contrast to modern spaces. Placing them alongside natural stone, timber, or linen accents creates a balanced composition without overpowering contemporary decor.

Pewter should be cleaned gently using mild soap and warm water, followed by drying with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemical polishes, as these can strip the natural aged patina and damage the surface of the metal alloy.
