Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Jacobean style oak box stool brings traditional English Country House character to any interior, standing at 47 cm wide, 33 cm deep, and 40 cm high. The warm brown timber glows with a natural grain finish across its solid rectangular top and sturdy structural elements. A hinged mechanism allows the top to lift for practical hidden storage beneath. Below the seat, the front apron displays deep relief carvings of four lunette arches filled with detailed leaf motifs, framed by simple horizontal mouldings. Four baluster turned legs support the body, joined near the base by heavy square box stretchers that provide stability. Visible signs of age include surface patination and minor wear on the corners and edges of the antique wood. This versatile piece fits comfortably beside a fireplace hearth as a fireside seat, or functions as a low occasional table in a living room, hallway, or bedroom setting.

FAQs

A carved oak box stool is a traditional piece of English timber seating featuring a hinged or lifting top that reveals an internal storage compartment, often embellished with hand-carved friezes across the apron.

These pieces are constructed from solid quarter-sawn oak, utilizing pegged mortise and tenon joinery, turned leg supports, and heavy lower stretchers for structural rigidity.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-hewn wood surfaces, irregular peg placement, historic wear along the lower stretchers, and natural oxidisation around original metal hinges and joints.

An oak box stool functions effectively as a compact side table beside an armchair, an accent piece in a hallway, or functional hearthside seating in classic or country interior schemes.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying beeswax polish once a year, avoiding placement near direct heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage.
