Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. This Art Nouveau centrepiece from circa 1900 combines a silver-plated stand with a green and vaseline ruffled crackle glass bowl. The arched handle frame includes an openwork upper loop, small blossom motifs along the sides, and a floral relief design on the base supporting the fluted bowl rim. The silver plating exhibits light surface wear consistent with age, while the glass maintains an intact textured surface with a green-shaded border. Measuring 26 cm high and 24 cm wide, the piece sits well on a dining table centre, cabinet display, or hallway console to provide a period accent in domestic settings.

FAQs

Originating in the late 19th century, Art Nouveau metalwork favoured organic, flowing forms inspired by nature, including stylized flowers, vine tendrils, and characteristic whiplash curves, often integrating coloured glass elements into metal armatures.

These decorative objects typically combined silver-plated base metals, such as Britannia metal or pewter, with hand-blown glass inserts, often utilizing uranium additives to produce distinct green or yellow vaseline glass effects.

Authenticity is evaluated through period-specific manufacturer stamps, such as the WMF ostrich mark, characteristic electroplate wear patterns, and the fluorescence of genuine vaseline glass when exposed to ultraviolet light.

The item can be placed as a standalone accent on a dining table, sideboard, or deep window sill where direct natural light highlights the translucency and colour variation of the glass.

The glass insert should be washed separately in lukewarm water using mild detergent, while the silver-plated frame should be gently buffed with a soft cloth and specialized silver polish, avoiding harsh chemicals and sudden thermal shifts.
