Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Traditional English footstools and ottomans feature low-profile wooden frames, dense upholstery padding, turned timber legs, and metal castors for mobility. Originating as functional footrests, larger flat-topped designs evolved during the Victorian and Edwardian eras to serve as central low tables within living spaces.

Classic footstools were constructed using solid hardwood frameworks such as mahogany, walnut, or oak. Padding comprised natural materials like horsehair, jute webbing, and steel coil springs, covered in woven wool, linen, or damask fabrics and secured with brass tack trim.

Authentic period pieces display hand-turned legs with original brass wheel castors, hand-driven upholstery tacks, and natural age-related patina on the timber. Structural joinery typically reveals mortise and tenon construction underneath the lower frame lining.

A large low footstool works effectively as a central coffee table alternative when topped with a wooden tray, positioned in front of a primary sofa, or placed at the foot of a bed to add texture and secondary seating.

Woven upholstery requires regular light vacuuming with a soft brush attachment and immediate spot-cleaning of spills with neutral fabric cleaner. Brass castors should be kept clear of dust and lubricated occasionally with light mineral oil to maintain smooth movement without damaging adjacent flooring.
