Georgian Baluster Wine Glass

This is an elegant Georgian, English, baluster wine glass dating from the beginning of the 18th century, c1730. Similar glasses can be seen in L M Bickerton''s, Eighteenth Century English Drinking Glasses (1986), on page 86, numbers 135 and 137.
 
The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot commensurate with some 300 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
 
 
The glass has a trumpet-shaped bowl with a deep, solid base enclosing an air tear and measuring 6.5 cm (2.6 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl sits on three collars and a true baluster stem containing a second air tear, and an additional basal knop. The stem ends in a conical, folded foot which measures 7 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter. The glass is 16.5 cm (6.6 inches) in height.
