Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cameo carving originated in antiquity and experienced major revivals during the Renaissance and nineteenth century. Artists used contrasting natural layers of marine shells, such as sardonyx or cassis madagascariensis, to carve detailed reliefs of portraits and classical figures.

Traditional cameos are carved from natural materials including conch or helmet shells, hardstones like agate and onyx, glass, or lava stone. These carved elements are typically mounted in frames made of yellow gold, silver, or pinchbeck.

Authentic shell cameos show subtle carving variations, natural translucency when held to a light source, and distinct layer colours between the relief and background. Under magnification, carved shell displays organic curved lines rather than molded seams found in plastic or resin imitations.

An antique cameo brooch can be fastened to a jacket lapel, tied onto a silk scarf, or pinned to the collar of a buttoned shirt. Alternatively, it can be attached to a chain and worn as a pendant necklace or displayed in a velvet-lined framed shadow box.

Shell cameos should be wiped gently with a soft, damp cloth and kept away from harsh chemicals, extreme heat, or prolonged direct sunlight. Occasional light application of mineral oil helps prevent the shell from drying out or cracking over time.
