Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This tall single-door Italian Country wardrobe and bedroom storage cupboard dates from the 20th century, specifically the 1930 period. Constructed from pine with a warm brown finish, the piece is decorated with hand-painted polychrome grapevine artwork featuring dark purple grapes and green leaves enclosed within a decorative border on the door panel. Additional details include a shaped pediment crest at the top, a single base drawer with a small ring pull handle, decorative iron hinges, and sturdy square-section feet. The surfaces show natural patination and wear consistent with age. Measuring 200 cm high, 89 cm wide, and 58 cm deep, this practical storage unit is suited for placement in a bedroom, hallway, or living space to hold clothing, linens, or daily accessories while adding a rustic farmhouse character to an interior.

FAQs

To preserve painted surfaces, keep the timber away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or paint flaking. Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and avoid using solvent-based cleaners or excessive moisture.

A single-door painted wardrobe serves as a focal piece in neutral bedrooms, entryways, or living areas. Positioned against muted plaster or painted walls, its detailed artwork offers textural contrast and functional concealed storage for linens, coats, or media.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural paint wear around areas of frequent contact, such as handles, base edges, and door frames. Inspection of the reverse timber panels, hand-cut joinery, forged metal fittings, and age-appropriate paint craquelure provides key indicators of original manufacture.

Regional artisans typically constructed wardrobes using local softwoods like pine, poplar, or walnut before applying a gesso base coat. Surface decorations were created using mineral pigments mixed with natural binders, finished with hand-forged iron hardware such as decorative hinges and drop handles.

Italian polychrome furniture is distinguished by its use of multiple paint pigments applied directly to wood surfaces, often depicting botanical motifs, scrolled foliage, and regional heraldry. Popular from the 17th through the 19th centuries, these pieces combined functional storage with expressive local folk art traditions.
