Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Art Deco compactum wardrobe is a specialized storage cabinet originating from the 1920s and 1930s, featuring internal fitted compartments, shelves, or hanging rails. Stylistically, these pieces showcase geometric proportions, smooth veneered surfaces, curved edges, and contrasting timber inlays.

Cabinetmakers during the Art Deco period frequently utilised figurative timber veneers such as birds eye maple, burr walnut, zebrawood, and satinwood. Construction typically incorporated solid corewood panels covered with thin decorative veneers, complemented by carved wooden or Bakelite handles.

Authentic 1930s pieces exhibit specific construction markers including dovetail drawer joints, original locks, heavy timber cores behind veneers, and characteristic geometric or streamlined decorative elements rather than mass-produced modern fittings.

A compactum functions well as statement bedroom storage, an entryway linen cabinet, or a dining room sideboard substitute. Pairing the light maple veneer with neutral walls and subtle metallic accents highlights the geometric wood inlay without cluttering the space.

Keep veneered furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking and discolouration. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality clear beeswax polish periodically, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that strip the original lacquer finish.
