Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. This Art Deco condiment jar combines clear cut glass and hallmarked sterling silver components. The piece displays a cylindrical glass body with a starburst-cut base, topped by a polished silver mount, a swinging handle, and a hinged circular lid bearing a small circular finial and a spoon notch. Birmingham hallmarks are visible on the interior underside of the lid alongside stamped registration markings on the mechanism. The sterling silver mount shows gentle surface wear in line with normal use, and the clear glass body remains free of chips or cracks. Measuring 12.5 cm high, 7 cm wide, and 7 cm deep, this item functions as a tabletop serving vessel. It suits placement upon a sideboard top or dining table for serving condiments during meals, offering a practical yet decorative addition to tableware collections.

FAQs

Condiment jars were designed to hold sauces, jams, mustard, or pickles at the dining table, protecting contents with a fitted lid while presenting a refined aesthetic during formal meals.

These vessels were typically constructed using cut or molded clear glass paired with hallmarked sterling silver, electroplated nickel silver, or silver-gilt mountings and lids.

Authentic British pieces bear official assay office hallmarks, including the lion passant mark for sterling silver, a date letter, a town mark, and a makers mark stamped onto the metal elements.

It can be repurposed on a dining sideboard, integrated into a bar cart arrangement to hold garnishes, or displayed inside a glass cabinet alongside period glassware.

Wash the glass base by hand with warm, soapy water, and gently buff the silver mounts using a specialized silver polishing cloth to remove tarnish without submerging delicate mechanical joints.
