This unusual Edwardian crystal glass decanter takes the form of a bell, dating from 1910. The clear cut glass body displays extensive decorative detailing, including cross-hatch cutting around the upper shoulder and lower rim, vertical panelled sides in the mid-section, and a matching faceted pointed glass stopper with horizontal ring mouldings. The smooth reflective finish catches the light, highlighting the intricate geometric cutting and the flared shape. Standing at 25 cm high, the decanter has a compact and balanced presence. Positioned on a sideboard top, it serves as a decorative and functional accessory within a gentleman's library or dining setting, offering a refined way to serve spirits.

Bell-shaped decanters became popular during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, reflecting a movement towards unique, stylized glassware forms. Glassmakers utilized heavy lead crystal, cutting decorative diamond and panel patterns into the glass to catch the light during formal dining service.

Edwardian decanters were predominantly blown and cut from lead crystal or heavy flint glass. High lead content added density, refraction, and a resonant ring when tapped, allowing artisan glass cutters to execute detailed geometric patterns.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut facets that feel crisp to the touch, visible refractive light dispersion, and significant physical weight due to high lead content. Additionally, original stoppers were often ground and hand-fitted specifically to the individual neck of the decanter.

Displaying a glass decanter on a timber sideboard, brass tray, or modern bar cart adds texture and historical balance. Pairing clear glass barware against dark wood finishes or deep wall colours enhances light refraction and creates an elegant focal point.

Wash crystal by hand using warm water and mild dish soap with a soft sponge, avoiding sudden temperature changes and dishwashers. To remove internal clouding or residue, rinse with warm vinegar or a water-and-uncooked-rice mixture, and allow to dry thoroughly before replacing the stopper.
