Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th-century Victorian Gothic Revival bookcase is made from pine with a distressed cream painted finish and glass panels. The upper section comprises two glazed doors with Gothic arched glass panes, while the lower section features a single solid panel door fitted with a small round black knob and keyhole escutcheon. Visible signs of age include heavy chipping, crackled texture, and wear throughout the painted surface exposing the timber beneath, alongside simple linear mouldings framing the doors and cabinet structure. Measuring 190 cm high, 79 cm wide, and 38 cm deep, the compact two-tier storage unit is designed to stand upright against a wall. It functions effectively in a living room, dining room, or hallway for displaying books and decorative items on upper shelves while concealing everyday storage in the lower cupboard.

FAQs

Victorian Gothic Revival furniture is defined by architectural motifs borrowed from medieval ecclesiastical design, such as pointed arches, tracery panelling, turned details, and heavy structural timber forms popularised in the mid-to-late 19th century.

These cabinets were typically constructed from regional softwoods such as pine or hardwoods like oak, fitted with hand-blown glass window panes, iron or brass hardware, and finished with multi-layered lead-based or milk paint.

Authentic pieces feature hand-planed timber backboards, irregular glass thickness with minor air bubbles, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, and natural paint abrasion patterns consistent with age and regular handling.

A tall glazed bookcase can be integrated into a contemporary space as a linen cabinet, pantry storage, or display unit, offering strong textural contrast against clean architectural walls and modern furnishings.

Maintain the paint surface by dusting regularly with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding chemical cleaning agents or excess moisture, and keeping the item in a climate-controlled room away from direct heat sources.
