Victorian scent bottles often feature ornate metalwork, such as embossed sterling silver or gilt caps, paired with complex glass techniques like overlay or cased glass to reflect the opulent tastes of the late 19th century.

These items were typically crafted using mouth-blown glass, often with multiple layered casings, combined with hallmarked sterling silver, brass, or gilt metal closures and inner glass stoppers.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-appropriate silver hallmarks, hand-cut facets showing minor wear consistent with age, and hand-blown glass characteristics such as pontil marks and tiny trapped air bubbles.

They can be displayed on a mirrored vanity tray, placed on a deep window sill to catch the light through coloured glass, or used to add a touch of historical craftsmanship to a modern bathroom counter.

Clean the glass gently with a soft cloth and mild soapy water, avoiding harsh chemicals, and use a specialised non-abrasive cloth to polish tarnished silver components without touching any fragile glass surfaces.
