Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pair of early 20th century Italian giltwood floor lamps in the Baroque style, featuring central columns with carved acanthus leaf details, turned knops, and circular bases standing on bun feet. The upright shafts are upholstered in original red velvet, paired with scalloped fringed shades in gold fabric. These decorative items measure 173 cm high by 33 cm wide and 33 cm deep. They have been rewired, PAT tested, and operate in working order, though the shades are excluded from the purchase. Suitably scaled for placement in an empty corner, these floor lamps add height and traditional character to interior living spaces. The combination of gold giltwood finishes and red fabric elements creates a striking visual presence within a room. Buyers can retain the existing red velvet upholstery or replace the fabric to suit individual decorative preferences. They function as both ambient lighting fixtures and sculptural decorative objects within a home setting.

FAQs

Italian Baroque lighting features dramatic proportions, ornate carved details, dynamic scrolls, and gilded or painted finishes designed to reflect light and create strong visual presence.

These lamps are typically constructed from hand-carved wood, finished with gold leaf gilding over gesso, and often feature velvet-wrapped shafts alongside fabric shades.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-carving on wooden elements, visible gesso layers beneath worn gilding, natural oxidisation on fittings, and period-appropriate joinery.

Positioning a pair to frame a contemporary sofa or within an architectural alcove creates dramatic structural contrast against modern, minimalist backdrop walls.

Giltwood components should be dusted gently with a soft dry cloth or feather duster, avoiding water or liquid cleaners, whilst fabric shades require careful vacuuming with a brush attachment.
