Victorian scent bottles were essential dressing table accessories used to hold perfumes, smelling salts, or vinegar during the 19th century, reflecting the eras focus on personal grooming and hygiene.

These pieces typically combined hand-blown or mould-blown glass with precious metals such as sterling silver or gold, often featuring intricate hand-cut facets and embossed metal caps.

Authentic pieces usually feature clear hallmarks on the metal mounts denoting the maker, town, and year of assay, alongside period-appropriate wear and hand-finished glass characteristics.

This type of piece can be displayed on a mirrored vanity tray, a dressing table, or an open shelf where light can pass through the coloured glass, adding a touch of period elegance to contemporary spaces.

Preservation involves dusting the glass gently with a soft cloth and using a non-abrasive silver cloth on the metal mounts, avoiding harsh chemical dips that could damage historical patination or crystal integrity.
