Description

Here’s a very nice old pine wardrobe with a single door and a classic cornice top. The door is four-panelled, and the sides are panelled as well, giving the piece a strong, traditional look. The top is flat, making it useful for baskets or additional storage if needed.

The wardrobe is in great condition for its age and dates from around 1900, possibly a little earlier. It is currently in bare wood, having been stripped of its original painted finish. The door is mounted on French-style external hinges, allowing it to open wide for easy access.

Inside, there is currently no hanging rail, but one can be fitted for you. If you don’t need the full hanging height, a shelf with a rail underneath could also be installed. The internal depth is generous, making it suitable for coats and bulkier garments.

This wardrobe completely dismantles for delivery, so it can be taken upstairs with ease.

Available for £875 as it is, or £947 if you’d like it waxed.

Dimensions: height 76.5", width 53", depth 24", internal depth 20"

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Antique pine wardrobes gained popularity during the 19th century as practical bedroom storage, often crafted by regional cabinet makers using locally sourced softwood.

These pieces are typically constructed from solid deal or Scots pine, featuring pegged mortise and tenon joints, hand-planed panels, and knockdown systems designed for easy transport.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut joints, traditional timber shrinkage cracks, wrought iron or brass hinges, and historical tool marks rather than modern machine production.

The natural wood grain and simple lines complement rustic farmhouse aesthetics, while providing functional storage that contrasts against neutral modern walls.

Maintain the wood by avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations, occasionally treating the surface with natural beeswax to nourish the grain.
